About The Presenter
Sexual violence from a Te Ao Māori is an absolute violation of the mana of a person and the collective mana of whānau, hapū and iwi. Similarly, for all people, rangahau (research) consistently reports that experiencing sexual violence can have detrimental effects on wāhine, within this, the research recognises there is room for growth in Whānaungatanga, tinana, hinengaro and wairua. Embracing a trauma-focused cognitive-behavioural (CBT) framework, psychoeducation enables wāhine to ‘make-sense’ of their painful memories. Building on this increased sense of self we incorporate Mason Durie’s, Te Whare Tapa Wha model (1984) which provides a framework for growth of their holistic wellbeing
